(Quick side note, for some reason I was unable to embed my link-up buttons at the end of this post because of my YouTube HTML coding... Whatevs, I'm still linking up with Meet At The Barre, The Lauren Elizabeth, and September F A R M)
So gals (and like, three guys), here are some of the Top 5 strange/quirky/bizarre things I find awesome about living in this strange/quirky/bizarre state of Tejas:
1) If you follow me on Twitter, you know I loved this zoning configuration. It just really doesn't get more convenient than this, folks! And so, so necessary.
All baby/children's stores need a wine shop in the same parking lot. It's only humane. |
2) Remember driver's ed? You likely took it in high school at some point? Yeah, nobody took it here in Dallas. There are no driving rules except this: Yield to the largest vehicle. Don't pay attention to posted speed limits (go the speed of traffic, usually 85mph) don't think that people will stay in their lanes (they won't, especially if that's a truck next to you) and don't assume anyone is actually stopping for that red light. At first, this drove me nuts! But now... I like your crazy style, Dallas.
3) While I watch all my MN friends on Facebook post pics of them bundled up and leaves changing, dreading the coming winter, I enjoy this reality. Remember Monday's post where I was in riding boots and a cardigan? It was 86 degrees.
4) Simply put: TACO JOINT. How it produces the greatest tacos on earth without being a dive/shack, I'll never know.
5) We get to watch commercials like this. This man is serious. Amazing. Don't get me started on the insane political ads, either... Because they're just as great as this little gem:
JIM ADLER!!!!!! THE HAMMER! HAHAHAHAHA! Yes!
ReplyDeleteThose are definitely some funny things. Have a great weekend girl!
I literally stop what I'm doing when a Jim Adler commercial comes on. Did y'all get the "Bless Your Heart" commercials with that one dude? I can't remember if that was FWD-specific or not... But I think he got into legal troubles and they pulled his tacky ads! Hahaha
DeleteThe thing I find most interesting is how different commercials are depending on where you live!! Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteTexas commercials are GREAT. Nothing was this awesome in Minneapolis, nor did I see anything this amazing when I lived in Savannah, GA. Are there some good ones in Boston, with the thick accents?! Oh, I hope so!
Delete80 degrees is cold to me. 90-100 is warm, over a 100 is hot! lol. love the babies r us and the wine store - perfect!
ReplyDeleteYeah girl, 80 IS cold! That's why I was wearing a sweater, leggings, socks and boots that day! :)
DeleteI go to that wine store EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I have to go to Babies R Us (which isn't that often since I don't have any littles yet!)...but I agree, pure brilliance in location! And I used to agree with you on the traffic thing...until I got a ticket when I was just cruising along with the flow of traffic! Ha...not that it's changed my driving habits any though...love the fast pace of traffic, especially on the Tollway!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, that developer wins at life. You know, we've lived here for a good while now, and I've NEVER seen someone get pulled over for a ticket! Such a bummer you got singled out. Agreed about the Tollway, and pretty much every road outside of the 635 loop. It's like, "Oh, we're not in Dallas anymore? Go 95mph or get the eff outta the way!" In fact, I'm probably getting passed at 95mph...
DeleteOMG!! Traffic around Dallas is the WORST!! Serious anxiety!

It's seriously insane. There's still some parts of town that I have to white-knuckle it through. I mean, it's under construction, the lanes are as wide as your car, we're all going 90 and odds are high to extremely high the person next to you isn't going to look before making a lane change. AHHHHH.
DeleteI've never heard of this Jim Alder guy. I'm going to have to look him up. We don't get those commercials up here in Seattle.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has cooled down here to the mid 70s, you'd be freezing!
Seattle drivers are terrible too. One of my girlfriends moved to the Dallas area and she says the drivers are really bad there too. Here they drive too slow, down there too fast. Ha!
He's a TX attorney, so he's probably only aired here. It's a treat, though! I'm originally from Minneapolis, and there they seem to think it's appropriate to drive 40-45mph on the interstate and they brake to merge. That drives me more insane than our reckless drivers!
DeleteOh my gosh, lol!! Please tell me that is not a real commercial - wayy too funny!
ReplyDeleteOh girl, that commercial is REAL! And serious. Who actually calls him for legal help is the real question at hand...
Deletehaha I live in Texas and I know what you mean! Currently it is 80 something outside and I am in leggings and a tunic. :) lol
ReplyDeleteYup, sounds about right! We just get used to it being soooooooooooo uncomfortably hot, when the weather turns decent, we don't know what to do other than break out the sweaters (so we can keep sweating)!
DeleteLoved this post. We have "The Hammer her in KY" but he's nothing like yours!
ReplyDeleteIsn't he just a treat?! Man I love that dude. Brightens my day, every time.
